Step 1 of 4 – Enter Personal Details and Current
Plate Information.
Most commonly, you would terminate your registration because you sold your vehicle
and want to ensure that the tax town takes it off of the tax roll in your name.
If you are terminating the registration because it is a vehicle you own but are
not currently operating (i.e. - You use it seasonally or are restoring it) choose
Customer Held as the option for your plates. This allows you to do one of two things.
First, you can terminate your registration and move the plates to another vehicle
you own or, second, you can store the plates yourself and then have the DMV reassign
them when you start driving the vehicle again.
NOTE: Do not cancel your insurance until you have cancelled your
registration with the DMV. Doing so could lead to compliance issues.
- Begin the registration and plate cancellation process by entering your First
Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, CT Drivers License Number/CT ID Card Number, Plate
Number, and Plate Class.
